Genie Screwdriver Garage Opener Carriage Replacement
We had a customer call today in a panic. Her garage door was slammed shut and would not open. She said when she tried to open the garage door it was making a very bad noise. The door was opening a little bit but not opening completely.
Initially I tested the door and it barely opened by a foot and when I tried to close it slid shut with such intense speed I knew the carriage was shot. The teeth had been stripped and there was no friction against the rail.
This can be very dangerous if not fixed immediately because the door now has no control. In this situation I decided to check the springs because the customer told me that the garage started acting weird only a couple of weeks ago and it turns out the springs were not only very old and in terrible shape but were way too loose. When springs need to be replaced or adjusted they tend to loose tension.
This is a perfect example of why a garage door should receive an annual maintenance. All that was originally needed would have been two springs being adjusted and maintenance. Instead, I had to not only adjust the springs but replace the carriage also. The customer was lucky that there was no damage the garage door from all that stress.
